The END of the Year!?

It is so hard to believe that our school year is coming to a close!  With just a few days left, I hope I say all that I wish to say to your child, and have a few precious moments with each of them.  Each child has contributed to making our room a home, our class a family.  They have held their friends hands as they cried, patted backs, given hugs, band-aided, encouraged, smiled & cared for each other like no other class I've ever had.

2L kids, you are special.
You made this year wonderful for me and for all of your classmates.  As you go on to third grade take that special magic with you....the magic that made this class great and unique.  Spread it to your new friends.  They will be better people for knowing you.

Have a wonder-filled summer!  Read everyday. Use your imagination.  Write fun stories.  Dance! Sing.  Be silly.  Meditate!  Sink your toes into the sand.  Skip rocks.... Smile.  Hug your parents.  Go to the park.  Bake cookies.  Lay in the grass, breathe & listen to the birds.
You are only a child for a few years.
ENJOY IT!

Know that I will miss you all summer and look forward to every time I see you on the street or at the pool!
Hugs & High Fives!

Cherokee Field Trip!

Thanks a million to our great friends at the Sanford Museum in Cherokee.  They really know how to bring dinosaurs to life!

We learned a few things today...

We learned about Iowa fossils.
Triceratops horns are REALLY HUGE!
Tyrannosaurus teeth would hurt if they bit us.

Crinoids are all over Iowa in fossilized form.

Dinosaurs came in different sizes.

Digging for fossils is very messy!
A 50 foot megalodon shark had a nasty bite.

The mud holes in Cherokee are about waist deep.......and we know who our friends are!!

We are worn out!

Last Week of Small Group Reading

Who is Greg Biffle?
What do I have in common with
Tom Hanks?
Where was Dr. Seuss born?
All these questions were answered last week as kids completed biographies.

For our last day together the kids decided to bring beach gear and just read in the sun. I hope that they can remember how much fun this was...and do it all summer!  I am so proud of all that they have accomplished this year.  What nice kids!

Let the Wild Rumpus Begin!

                                            Maurice Sendak, dies at 83

Take some time to read this incredible book to your kids soon.  The world lost a man with an incredible imagination today.  I hope that my students and children can keep their childlike imaginations intact for the rest of their lives like he did.  What a story!
