School will be in session on Monday, August 22. We will have an early dismissal at 12:25 for elementary the first 3 days. Specials schedule will start Tuesday, August 23 with day 1.

Bird Boys

Thanks to Raul & Treytun the birds will be snacking again soon. What a wild day to be running around outside! Thanks for taking one for the team boys!

Dinorama-ing

Today students really began digging in to the business of creating their dinosaur dioramas. They will concentrate on 1 time period during the Mezosoic Era giving examples of the dinosaurs that lived and what the plant life looked like. FUN!

Bob Bakker, Eat your Heart out!

A great day was had by all on our trip to Cherokee, IA today. We visited the Sanford Museum. Linda shared her great knowledge on the Mezosoic Era, how earth began and all things dinosaurio! Tyrannosaurus teeth, claws, upper arm triceratops horns, gastroliths and megaladon teeth were just a few of the fabulous fossils that kids were able to get their hands on. All students were able to dig for fossils in plaster and use the tools that real paleontologists utilize. Amazing!

Shaving Word Journeys

2L's reading group had a fantastic time today. We got messy taking our final Word Journey's test with shaving cream. Students left the room smelling fresh!

Writing

Writing-Writing-Writing!

Students used 2nd grade high-frequency words to write a paragraph with ME as the main character. Lots of fun!

Compare and Contrast

Students are putting their knowledge about the Triassic and Jurassic time periods to work today. They sorted vocabulary related to these time periods and then wrote compare/contrast paragraphs. Indenting, topic and closing sentences, and quality facts were all things they thought about as they wrote.

RESPONSIBLE!

Students were fired up Thursday to learn that the new pillar we will be focusing on from Character Counts is RESPONSIBILITY! We had a visit from Pat Cowan and a fun assembly. We are ready to prove we are responsible. Students spent the morning writing about ways that they show it in their daily lives. We also watched an Arthur video and looked for ways that Arthur and his friends show they are responsible.

Conferences

Thanks to all the families who attended conferences. I enjoyed sharing your child's work with you. I am so proud of our class. They have achieved so much this year!
