Think Like A Geologist
Cooperative groups used 7 different kinds of rocks today to run 4 tests. They tested their rocks on sandpaper, in water, with vinegar and looked closely with hand lenses. We have studied properties of rocks...and hearing their language today was fantastic. They shared, took turns and were asking each other questions about the findings.
Storm Water Education
Today we learned that our bad habits, make for bad habitats in our lake for wildlife. We talked about the things that we can do to create good habits in our lives that will help keep our lake environment healthy!
Justin demonstrated that Mr. Blue fish needs clean, healthy water to survive. He added "chemicals, oil, dog mess, grass clippings, salt" to the pretend habitat. We were sad to see such a messy habitat! We all hope to keep our lake and city beautiful!

Math happenings...
For the last 2 weeks we have studied fractions and shapes. These 2 subjects go well together! To culminate the unit, we used the shapes to demonstrate our knowledge of fractions.
2 trapezoids = a hexagon!
6 small triangles = a hexagon.
The students' favorite day is pictured above. They used the pattern blocks to fill in different shapes and find multiple solutions. Pattern blocks are a blast!
